| The painting named "fighting"is intended
to express the attitude of human being toward war, which seems
to be happy but in fact lies on the edge of crazy. With bare
hands, they are posing to be fighting bravely and ready for
sacrifice.
In the picture they are actually doing nothing but make several
poses, which is totally like a laughy. Our great heroes are
just laughable enemies in the eyes of other nations or countries.
Likewise, the heroes of other nations or countries are just
shit in our eyes. The human being is just in this ambivalent
and facetious state which everyone knows but no one can escape.
Thus my paintings mostly expresses the helplessness in having
no alternative. At the back of laughter, it is affliction
and flabbiness that hide.
During the near hundreds of years, China had experienced
a long history of turbulence and warfare. At the very beginning
of this new century, the whole human being is facing to the
new anti-terrorism war. All these horrible events are telling
us that this world is full of wars and killings. This reminds
me an old Chinese joke: there were two warriors in the state
of Qi, one lived in the east of the city, the other the south.
One day, they met on the way and proposed to each other: "Let's
go and have a drink! " While drinking deeply, they said:
"Let's find some meat to eat!" Then, one of them
thought: "You have a body of flesh, and so do I. Why
shall we seek far and neglect what lies close at hand?"
Therefore they drew out their swords to cut and eat each other.
This is a cruel joke. The two warriors' desirability is good,
eating some meat for the sake of their friendship and the
happiness of their drinking. But they are so stupid and lack
of wisdom that instead of buying some, they choose to eat
each other. Isn't the war of human being just exactly the
same as the behavior of these two warriors? No matter what
kind of excuse is used, war is the lamentable result of human
being lacking of wisdom and having no other alternative, namely,
an internal massacre.
